Heritage Decorative Artists of Southeast Michigan

Heritage Decorative Artists of Southeast Michigan is a group of approximately 45 women who meet bi-monthly at the Westfield Center, 2700 Westfield Rd., (just off West Rd.) in Trenton.  We are a "chapter" of the Society of Decorative Painters based in Wichita, Kansas.

We love getting together sharing ideas, new techniques, and the fun that painting can bring into our lives.  Our membership consists of all levels of painters from beginning students through advanced teachers.  We occasionally host seminars, enjoy painting together as a group after meetings, and at other times, we learn by watching demos conducted by other members.  So yes, we do grow as artists within our club.  There are many other benefits to belonging to H.D.A. but the most important is the bond of new friendships that is constantly forming as we welcome new members.

Special meetings throughout the year include a fun potluck picnic in August and a wonderful Christmas banquet/party in December.  Of course there are always exciting raffles after the meetings, with lots of painting supplies waiting to go home with you!

A variety of community service projects are completed by our members on a volunteer basis:

  • Food and staple items are gathered for the needy.
  • Face painting sessions with fees donated to Trenton's Special Needs program.
  • Monetary donations to Cancer groups are given from our treasury.
  • Painted "Memory Boxes" are donated to Oakwood Hospital's Infant Bereavement Program.  They are presented to grieving parents by hospital staff.

We are proud of our extensive library of painting books and videos within our group.  Members may borrow items of their choice, and return them at the next meeting at no charge!

To join our painting club, a membership is required with the National Society of Decorative painters at a yearly fee of $35.00.  This membership automatically enrolls you in a subscription (6 issues) to the Decorative Painter, the best painting magazine in the industry.  It is full of painting projects, tips, and techniques using a variety of painting mediums, for all levels of painters.  As a member, you are eligible (if you wish) to attend a yearly convention hosted in different states each year with approximately 4,000 fellow decorative artists.  Classes, a trade floor exhibit for purchasing the latest painting supplies, fun activities and social events, and an annual meeting with elections of officers are offered.  Heritage Decorative Artist's dues are only $15 yearly.  A whole new world of fun and growing as and artist awaits you for a total yearly fee of only $50.00.  That's less than one dollar a week!

We would love to have you visit us!  Feel free to come to our next meeting as a guest - with absolutely no obligation to join.  But we do sincerely hope, however, that you will!

The meetings are held the third Wednesday of every other month.  The months we meet are February, April, June, August (pot luck picnic), October, and December (banquet).  The doors open at 6:30 PM - grab a cup of coffee, chat, and relax until the meeting begins at 7:00 PM.
